POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: Accounting Technician

DEPARTMENT: Accounting SITE: Various

SALARY SCHEDULE: Career - GRADE: 2

BASIC FUNCTION:

Performs responsible and difficult work in the maintenance of complex accounting records and reports.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

v      Reconciles ledgers with trial balance and prepares accounting entries.

v      Distributes statistical information, budget data, status reports, grant data and outstanding encumbrances to budget supervisors in the departments.

v      Performs data input of college investments. Calculates maturity amounts and produces related reports.

v      Inputs and produces financial reports and other statistical data. Prepares accounting reports from information supplied by accountants.

v      Controls and processes payment of invoices in a specific area.

v      Assists in the preparation, implementation and control of the operating budget for a campus or department.

v      Performs statistical analysis and compiles reports such as productivity comparisons, cost analysis, fund status and comparisons, fund expenditures and personnel position status reports.

v      Inputs and types financial reports and other statistical information. Prepares accounting reports.

v      Performs related duties as required.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma, supplemented by college level courses in accounting. Associate's degree is preferred.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Two (2) years of responsible experience as a bookkeeper or in accounting, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge of accounting practices and procedures. Knowledge of sentence structure. Knowledge of word usage. Skill in reading comprehension. Knowledge of mathematics and basic accounting. Ability to keyboard at a prescribed rate of speed and accuracy. Ability to operate a calculator. Ability to operate data entry equipment. Communications skills. Ability to deal with the public.
