POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: Library Technician

DEPARTMENT: Library SITE: Various

SALARY SCHEDULE: Career - GRADE: 2

 

BASIC FUNCTION:

Performs specialized and advanced clerical work in library acquisitions and technical services.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

v      Performs technical library work related to maintenance of library collections.

v      Utilizes the circulation and acquisitions modules of ALEPH, an automated library management system, in the performance of duties

v      Processes orders for books and audiovisual items at a college site. Maintains detailed computerized records of items ordered and received at the site.

v      Utilizes ALEPH to maintain serials collection: check-in, claims, holdings.

v      Maintains catalog records making corrections, revisions, withdrawals and deleting records.

v      Searches and matches items on the international data base to update the college's holdings.

v      Verifies accuracy, processing and packing materials that go to sites.

v      Prepares reports relating to library and circulation statistics.

v      Downloads interlibrary loan requests from other institutions.

v      Accesses, prints and sends out overdue notices for each site.

v      Manages departmental communication regarding technical services and acquisitions.

v      Handles phone calls and other inquiries and maintains the areas assigned in absence of the library professional.

v      May be required to perform circulation or other related library work at a campus location.

v      Performs related duties as required.

 

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. College coursework preferred.

 

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Three (3) years of library, office management, bookstore, and public service experience.

 

KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge of integrated library system (ILS) processes and procedures. Demonstrated attention to detail.  Skill using Microsoft Office or similar software. Strong oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated successful customer service experience and experience working with diverse populations. Basic math skills.  Ability to lift (20lbs) and reach library shelves.  Experience with Ex Libris Aleph library system preferred.  Ability to work nights and weekends on a rotating schedule.
