POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: Senior Library Technician

DEPARTMENT: Library SITE: Various

SALARY SCHEDULE: Career - GRADE: 2

BASIC FUNCTION:

Performs responsible and advanced clerical work in ordering, receiving and invoicing materials for all college library sites, including the maintenance of budget accounts for all locations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

v      Originates requisitions for ordering all library materials at a central library processing center. Obtains pricing information from vendors, including discount and special prices.

v      Processes shipped library material documents with requisitions to assure accuracy of materials and prices.

v      Maintains financial records of expenditures and encumbrances.

v      Assists in the coordination of work processing in the department in the absence of the Director.

v      Performs statistical clerical tasks relating to budgets, material records and other library acquisitions records.

v      Interacts with the purchasing staff from origination of an order through invoicing.

v      Prepares reports relating to library and circulation statistics.

v      Performs receptionist duties, handles phone calls and other inquiries and maintains the areas assigned.

v      Performs related duties as required.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma supplemented by college level courses in bookkeeping or accounting.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Three (3) years of library, bookkeeping, secretarial or public service experience. Experience in processing purchase requisitions and maintaining related records.

KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge of basic accounting procedures. Knowledge of library procedures and processes. Knowledge of sentence structure and word usage. Skill in reading comprehension. Skill in proof- reading. Knowledge of basic mathematics. Ability to keyboard at a prescribed rate of speed and accuracy. Ability to communicate orders and accounting information to vendors. Ability to operate a computer. Ability to operate a calculator. Ability to lift up to 20 pounds. Ability to reach library shelves. Ability to deal effectively with people. Oral and written communications skills.
